Multi-Storey Car Park Update
Working alongside a specialist car park provider, the Trust submitted applications in August 2008 for planning permission to build decked car parks at Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals as part of a range of provision to address parking pressures.
The proposed multi-storey car parks will be located on the main public car park at the south-eastern end of GRH and will make use of the existing entrances from Great Western Road.
At CGH it will be on hospital land currently used for surface parking located between Orrisdale Terrace and the Lido and extending behind the hospital’s boiler house. The entrance to the new car park will be from Keynsham Road.
The building designs range from one and a half to four storeys in height, with the majority three and a half storeys to provide four levels of parking including screened parking at roof level.
The architects have designed a building clad in angled timber louvres, using a natural material for the external finish which will block car lights and allow the building to be naturally ventilated.
The local borough and city councils will be consulting formally upon the applications, however staff and local residents had the opportunity view the application proposals and ask the Director of Property and Medical Engineering Graham Marsh questions in June 2008.
The following summarise many of the questions raised at each event and answers provided:
