The Good Food Guide for Diabetes Patients now on Offer
05/12/2005
An increased number of diabetes patients from across the county can now discover if they are what they eat by attending special food education programmes.
The Diabetes and Endocrinology Service at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital will be rolling out more sessions on diet thanks to the creation of a new resource room. A first-of-its-kind for the department, the resource room has been kitted out with a new PC, interactive white board and power point projector, giving nurses and dieticians the right tools to help explain which foods are beneficial to the diabetic body.
Dr Thomas Ulahannan, Diabetes Consultant says,
“A few months ago the department started offering a carbohydrate counting course to help our patients assess how much insulin they need to take depending on what they were eating. The course has been attended by approximately 80 patients so far and with the help of the new facility we will be able to develop the programme further. The department will also benefit from the facility and staff will be able to use it to train future diabetes specialists.”
The equipment, which is worth £5000 was kindly donated by insulin manufacturer, Novo Nordisk.
