New State Of The Art Unit To Offer X-Cellent Care
22/12/2006
The go-ahead has been given for three brand new state-of-the art x-ray rooms. The £1.1million investment means patients who need an x-ray can be seen and treated quicker than ever before.
The first new digital x-ray unit will be based in the Emergency Department and will allow radiographers to take clearer, more precise images of their patients.
District Superintendent Radiographer, Christine Dooley said “We are delighted with the news. This new x-ray equipment was specifically chosen because of its ability to help us accurately diagnose patients with very serious injuries. The flexibility of the machine means patients can be x-rayed much more quickly without them needing to move too much giving the patient a much more comfortable experience.
”The Emergency X-ray Department performs approximately 25,000 examinations every year and in addition we provide a service for the orthopaedic and fracture clinics. As each new digital system is installed these patients will also enjoy the benefits of an improved service.”
Graham Marsh, Director of Property and Medical Engineering added, “The Trust is committed to investing in Cheltenham General Hospital and hope to equip three x-ray rooms at the hospital by 2010.”
Radiographers will also be able to look at a digital image of the patient in seconds. And thanks to the introduction of a new NHS computer programme called the Picture Archiving and Communications System, the images can be looked at by a patient’s medical team anywhere in the county in an instant.
The x-ray machine was supplied by Tetbury-based firm X Ograph. Works will begin in March 2007.
