Dr Janet Ropner, Associate Medical Director for the Trust, said: “We are sorry that Mrs Edwards’ family are unhappy with her treatment.
“All our clinicians have a duty to respect patient confidentiality so unfortunately we are unable to discuss the details of Mrs Edwards’ time in hospital. We do take any complaint about patient care seriously and we have arranged a meeting with Mrs Edwards’ family to discuss their concerns.
“Generally speaking, it is important to recognise that MRSA is not always acquired in a hospital setting and that it can be picked up in the community. “As part of our drive to combat infection, we do routinely screen patients who are likely to have acquired MRSA in the community, or who are known to be carriers, as soon as they arrive in our hospitals.
“I’d also like to reassure everyone that the Trust takes
the theft of any property seriously and will be seeing what lessons can
be learned from Mrs Edwards’ experience.”
