Team of newly-qualified nurses start work at county hospitals
19/03/2007
A team of 28 recently qualified nurses has now begun working at Gloucestershire Royal, Cheltenham General and Delancey Hospitals.
The nurses, who all studied at the University of the West of England (UWE), have already started working on the wards of the county’s acute hospitals and will receive supervised training over the next six months.
Maggi Lewis, Director of Nursing at the Trust, said: “It is great news for our students, the Trust and our patients that we are in a position to invest in the training of new nurses."
“We know how important it is to encourage training and development and I would like to welcome all the new nurses to the Trust.”
The newly-qualified nurses have started work in a range of different areas and will be offered support and guidance from within the clinical areas and the Nurse Education Department which runs the six-month programme.
Hannah Marsh, 22, who has just started work in the Day Surgery Unit at Cheltenham General, said: “I am really looking forward to working at the Trust. I’m particularly interested in midwifery and gynaecology and hope eventually to specialise in this area.”
All the newly-qualified nurses have been offered employment and in August it is hoped that the Trust will welcome the next team of nurses from UWE.
