Cheltenham Doctor Leads the Way in Breast Cancer Care
09/02/2007
A
Cheltenham Consultant has been named Professor for the Royal College
of Radiologists’ Breast Imaging Group, making him the second clinician
to be awarded this title in British history.
Consultant Radiologist Dr Iain Lyburn who works at Cheltenham General Hospital will tour the UK giving talks to doctors, nurses and fellow radiologists about advances in breast and cancer care.
The prestigious role awarded to him reflects the high standard of training already delivered in the Trust’s radiology department. “This is certainly a feather in the cap for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the 3 Counties Cancer Network” says Dr Lyburn. “The radiology department is recognised across the South West for its teaching and it’s a credit to my colleagues that I’m able to represent our hospital and our profession in this way. I’m delighted and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”
Dr Lyburn, who will continue to work at Cheltenham General Hospital and Cheltenham Imaging Centre, says his aim will be to share good practice amongst healthcare professionals who are involved in breast cancer care. Locally Dr Lyburn was instrumental in the establishment of the new PET CT scanner which is based in Cheltenham. The state-of-the-art equipment gives clinicians the most comprehensive diagnostic image currently available to cancer specialists in the world.
