Update: winter pressures

16/02/2007

Gill Parker, Divisional Director for Service Delivery – Medicine, said: “This week has been a particularly busy time for staff at our hospitals.

“However, I’m pleased to report that the situation is now returning to normal and today we are in a position to close some of the additional beds that were temporarily opened.

“It is important to stress that we are a 24-hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year service and we are never closed. We do not turn patients away and we have been able to care for anyone who comes through our doors.

“Like all acute hospitals, we do experience busy periods at this time of year and we were fully prepared for these additional pressures.

“Once again, I would like to thank our staff for their continuing dedication, support and commitment.”
