Recognising our volunteers at GRH

22/10/2007

Giving their time and making a difference every day, volunteers spend more than 1500 hours a week supporting patients, staff and visitors.

Working in around 48 wards and departments, they carry out a wide variety of roles and every year Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust thanks them for all they do at an annual reception.

For the first time the lunchtime event thanking them for their efforts will be held at King’s School, Gloucester, on Thursday October 25.

Trust Chair Dame Janet Trotter will be presenting medals to 43 people who have achieved 425 years of voluntary service between them, including one lady who has been volunteering for 25 years.

“The event is the highlight of the volunteers’ calendar and members of the Trust have the opportunity to thank them, celebrate their success, and show our appreciation for the time and commitment they give,” said Gay Limbrick, Voluntary Services Manager.

“We are delighted this year to welcome Edward Gillespie, managing director of Cheltenham Racecourse, as our guest speaker, who will be talking about the Gold Cup”

“He will be joined by Trust chief executive Paul Lilley, and other representatives of departments and wards where the volunteers carry out their roles.”

More than 250 volunteers work around the hospital, at the Department of Spiritual Care, and Wheatstone Day Hospice.

Gay added: “The volunteers are reliable, loyal people who willingly give their time without fuss. They also work together as a team, and enjoy the fellowship they find from other members of the service.”
