Trust Wins Health and Social Care Award
18/04/2008
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust beat dozens of other nominees to win the Tackling Climate Change South West category of the 2008 Health and Social Care Awards held last night (18.04.08) in Yeovil.
Run in partnership with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Department of Health, the Health and Social Care Awards are designed to highlight and celebrate innovation and excellence across health and social care.
The Good Corporate Citizenship entry for the Tackling Climate Change category has been highlighted as an excellent example of best practice.
The Trust has been recognised for sourcing 30% of food from local suppliers, exploring environmentally-sound construction processes and for reducing its carbon footprint.
After picking up the prize from presenter Nick Ross and Chairman of the South West Strategic Health Authority Sir Michael Pitt, Trust Director of Clinical Strategy, Dr Sally Pearson said:
“This is a wonderful recognition for the enthusiasm and efforts of so many people in the organisation particularly members of the Corporate Citizenship Committee and I think represents a tangible benefit of our engagement with the local community as a Foundation Trust.”
The mobile chemotherapy unit was also recognised on the night and received a runner-up certificate for the Improving Access South West award.
The first of its kind in Britain, the mobile chemotherapy unit is run in partnership with charity Hope for Tomorrow and brings chemotherapy treatment direct to communities across Gloucester.
