Shorter Waits for Patients in Gloucestershire
30/05/2008
More than nine out of ten patients in Gloucestershire are being seen and treated within 18 weeks of being referred by their GP.
Latest figures also show that over 95 per cent of patients in the South West wait six weeks or less for a range of diagnostic tests.
Publication of figures across the country highlight further improvements towards the national target of a maximum wait of 18 weeks from referral to treatment by December 2008. Good progress has also been made in tackling waiting times for 15 important diagnostic tests, such as audiology, CT and MRI scans, or scopes which use a fibre optic instrument to see inside the body.
Hospital waiting times in the South West now match the shortest in the country, and to date 13 organisations across the region are already being treated within 18 weeks of referral - nine months ahead of the national target.
By June 2008, all organisations across the South West will be treating patients within 18 weeks.
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Director of Service Delivery, Steve Peak:
“This is a considerable achievement and is largely down to the hard work of staff across the board, but we are far from complacent. We are committed to take further action to identify and tackle waiting lists for diagnostic tests and will continue to reduce these waits even further.
“Short waiting times for diagnosis and treatment are the key to delivering high quality care to patients, when and where they want it. People expect to be seen and treated promptly and we are working towards a modernised service without waits.
