Gloucestershire Inpatients to Receive National Survey

01/10/2008

Hospital patients in Gloucestershire are to be asked their views as part of a major NHS national patient survey.

Surveys will be posted out to 850 randomly chosen patients across the county who were inpatients at either Cheltenham General, Delancey or Gloucestershire Royal Hospital during August 2008.

Questions focus on cleanliness, parking, waits, communication with doctors, nurses and other health professionals, tests and results, medication, pain relief, information and on general patient experience.

Completing the survey allows people who have had contact with the hospital to give feedback, anonymously, about their experience to the NHS watchdog the Healthcare Commission.

The survey programme is aimed at providing feedback from patients which can be used locally for quality improvement, to assess the experience of service users to provide information for performance indicators and to provide information for national monitoring of the patients’ experiences.

Marit Dykes, Trust Patient & Public Involvement Co-ordinator said:

“We are always interested in improving the quality of our services and obtaining feedback from patients and taking account of their views and priorities is vital for bringing about improvements in the quality of care, and keeping the patient at the centre of health services.”

The survey will be distributed early this month and anyone who receives it will be asked to fill it in and return it within two weeks.
