Into Hospital and Home Again: an online leaflet
Routine and Emergency Admissions
Routine Admissions: Preparing for your stay
Your admission letter will tell you the date and time when
we will expect you. If you find you are unable to attend, please ring your
consultant’s secretary whose number will be on the top of your letter.
We can then arrange to admit another patient in your place while we find
you a date when you can attend. If you receive a state pension or benefit,
it is important to let your local Benefits Agency know you are coming into
hospital. Give yourself plenty of time for preparation so that you will not
have to worry while you are away from home. You can bring a relative or a
friend with you and they can stay with you until you are comfortably settled
in your ward.
Emergency Admissions
Do not worry if you have not had time to prepare. Please
discuss any concerns you may have with ward staff. They can contact people
who are able to alleviate your anxieties.
