Welcome to the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) section of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust website. Patient and Public Involvement means involving patients and public with decisions about service improvements and changes.
This section of the website aims to:
- Inform you of what we are doing as a Trust to involve you in our
service planning
- Give you an opportunity to feed back to us and have your say
- Let you know how you can get more involved
- Give you more information and links on the supporting system surrounding PPI
PPI Nationally
The NHS Plan and the Health and Social Care Act (2001) set out plans for a new system of PPI. The following will support the PPI system:
Patient Advice and Liaison Service ( PALS) – have been established in every trust to provide ‘on the spot’ help and information.
Patient and Public Involvement Forums (PPIFs) - will monitor, review, inspect, seek patients’ views and report on trust services
Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health (CPPIH) – will co-ordinate, fund, support and performance manage PPI Forums and ICAS
Overview and Scrutiny Committees (OSC) – all local authorities with social services responsibilities have power, to scrutinise health services including their response to Section 11 guidance
Independent Complaints
Advocacy Services (ICAS) -
will provide support and advice to people wanting to make formal
complaints about the NHS
PPI Locally
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a strong history of involving patients. We currently have locality groups (patient groups) for both Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital which play an active role in the numerous ongoing inspections and projects.
We have a PPI Project Board, chaired by the Trust Chair, meeting monthly. The purpose of this group is to ensure that services provided by the Trust are designed around the patient. For minutes click here
As part of our intention to train all staff in PPI
we have produced a simple guide for staff called ‘PPI Made Simple’ This will be given to all staff.
We have adopted the Welsh Practical Guide To Public And Patient Involvement as a more comprehensive guide. Details can be found here
