Stagecoach Route 99
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is working in partnership with Stagecoach Bus Network to provide a park and ride service that stats at Cheltenham Racecourse Park and Ride and runs via Cheltenham town centre to Cheltenham General Hospital. The service also incorporates a shuttle bus service from Cheltenham General to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
The shuttle bus service will run every 30 minutes between 7am and 7pm from Cheltenham General and 7.30am to 7.30pm from Gloucestershire Royal. Dedicated stops have been established at the Pathology Department at both hospitals.
The park and ride service runs from Cheltenham Racecourse to CGH via the town centre every 15 minutes at peak times from 6.20am.
The Cheltenham town centre stop will be at Albion Street/ Winchcombe Street (outside the Vauxhall Dealers) on journeys to the hospital and in Clarence Parade (outside Vodka Revolution night club) when travelling from Cheltenham General to the racecourse.
The Trust is working to improve the parking situation at the hospital and the new shuttle bus and the construction of a multi-storey car park will improve provision in the long term. Meanwhile, the Trust is currently looking into the viability of establishing a park and ride service for Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Car Parking Charges: Exemptions and Reductions
The Trust has introduced some exemptions and some reductions in parking charges for certain categories of patient.
Senior ward staff should offer these to the category’s of patients listed below or if approached by a patient or visitor enquiring about parking charges.
If a patient falls into one of the categories the senior sister will complete the Exemption Parking Permits Form and sign it. The relative will then take the form down to the Permit Office at GRH and the General Office at CGH.
The exemptions and reductions are as follows:
The Trust would consider Exemption from parking charges in individual cases where:
- Parents are staying overnight with children in the Children's Wards
- Outpatients are having dialysis, radio- or chemotherapy
These exemptions can only be issued during normal office hours from the Permit Office. If a patient’s relative arrives outside these hours, they will be required to pay for their parking for the first night. The form can still be issued by the Senior Sister, then the relative can go to the Permit Office the next day to process their exemption. (There will be no retrospective refund of the previous nights parking charge).
The Trust would consider a Weekly Parking Permit in individual cases where:
- The patient has been an inpatient for 14 days or more.
- The patient has been an inpatient in ITU for more than 3 days
- After 3 days if the patient is diagnosed as terminally ill
- The patient has been an inpatient in Neonatal/Special Care for more than 3 days
- Outpatients with multiple appointments in one week.
This will be at a cost of £12 which is non refundable.
The
decision to purchase a weekly parking permit at a reduced cost is at the
discretion of the Patient or Patient’s relative and is non refundable,
regardless of death, discharge or transfer. The Permit Office is not able
or permitted to give refunds or waive payments for car parking.
The criteria for concessions are set by the Green Transport Group please ensure each applicant falls into one of the relevant categories before being offered.
Auditing:
Senior Sisters who sign the forms must enter the patients GO number on
the form. All issue stubs relating to a form will be filed by General
Office. Regular checks will be carried out on audit trails for the purposes
of forward planning and budgeting.
