Stagecoach Route 99

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is working in partnership with Stagecoach Bus Network to provide a park and ride service that stats at Cheltenham Racecourse Park and Ride and runs via Cheltenham town centre to Cheltenham General Hospital. The service also incorporates a shuttle bus service from Cheltenham General to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

The shuttle bus service will run every 30 minutes between 7am and 7pm from Cheltenham General and 7.30am to 7.30pm from Gloucestershire Royal. Dedicated stops have been established at the Pathology Department at both hospitals.

The park and ride service runs from Cheltenham Racecourse to CGH via the town centre every 15 minutes at peak times from 6.20am.

The Cheltenham town centre stop will be at Albion Street/ Winchcombe Street (outside the Vauxhall Dealers) on journeys to the hospital and in Clarence Parade (outside Vodka Revolution night club) when travelling from Cheltenham General to the racecourse.

The Trust is working to improve the parking situation at the hospital and the new shuttle bus and the construction of a multi-storey car park will improve provision in the long term. Meanwhile, the Trust is currently looking into the viability of establishing a park and ride service for Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Multi-storey Car Park Development at GRH

Building work of a decked car park on-site at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital is underway as part of a range of provision to address parking pressures for patients, visitors and staff.

VINCI Construction was due to start onsite on 26th April 2010 and is expected to take one year to develop. Staff, patients and visitors who using the existing Tower Block car park will be advised of alternative parking arrangements during this time.

The new multi-story car park will be built on the site of the existing Tower Car Park, near the Tower at GRH. During this build an alternative patient car park will be available for patients and visitors at the ‘BT Car Park’ on Great Western Road. A letter and updated map have been produced for patients.

The development of the public car park at the south-eastern end of the hospital site to build a multi-storey 1000 space car park will significantly improve car parking provision on-site.

The architects have designed a building clad in angled timber louvres, utilising a natural material for the external finish which will block car lights and allow the building to be naturally ventilated.

Up to 4 hours £4.90
Up to 5-6 hours £6.00
Up to 24 hours £8.20

Our parking charges are in line with other car parks in Gloucester and Cheltenham to discourage people who are not visiting our hospitals from parking in our car parks.

Where can I park?

Please park in the designated visitor car parks shown on the maps. Please be aware that if you don’t park in a designated marked bay, if you park inconsiderately or block other car park users, you may be issued with a parking charge notice of £60.

How do I pay for my parking?

There are two types of visitor car parks on our hospital sites:
Pay and Display – using one of the machines situated within each car parking area and displaying your purchased ticket in your windscreen.

Pay on exit take a ticket at the barrier and pay at a machine on foot before returning to your car.  Please follow the instructions at each machine.

Do the machines accept credit cards?

You can pay by cash, credit or debit cards, and the ‘pay on foot’ machines will give change. The machines and the payment methods they accept  are colour coded as follows:

GREEN – Cash only
RED – Card only payment (i.e. credit or debit cards)
YELLOW – Cash and Card payment.

Patient and visitor charges, exemptions and reductions

Some categories of patient qualify for exemptions and reductions in parking charges.

Senior ward staff should offer these to the categories of patients listed below or if approached by a patient or visitor enquiring about parking charges.

If a patient falls into one of the categories the senior sister will complete an Exemption Parking Permit Form and sign it. The relative will then take the form down to the Parking Shop.

I am disabled – do I have to pay for parking?

Disabled users may park free in disabled spaces across the two hospital sites.  Please be advised this only applies to marked disabled bays, and if you are unable to find a vacant disabled space, you must pay for your parking at patient and visitor rates advertised.

The Hospital sites have a large number of disabled spaces available throughout the patient and visitor car parks, but as you are aware from section 6 in your blue badge handbook, the rules governing private land enable charges to be levied to all users parked on private land.  Please note that failure to observe this ruling will result in a Parking Charge Notice being issued to your vehicle.

Exemption from parking charges apply in individual cases where:
