The Childrens Centre Staff
A variety of people will be responsible for your care whilst in hospital. Some of the staff you may come in contact with while on the Children's Ward are: -
Consultants
You may also come into contact with other Paediatric Consultants based at Cheltenham General hospital and Neonates who are all members on the on call rota for Paediatrics. In addition if you/ your child requires surgical or orthopaedic care a consultant from that speciality will share the care with the Paediatric team.

The Nursing Staff
The nursing team is led by a Lead Nurse/ Matron – Karen Tomasino who is responsible for both hospital based and out reach services for children across the county.
The senior nurse at the Children’s centre is Deputy Lead Nurse/ Matron - Jo Harvey who is supported by 3 ward managers and a large number of specially trained paediatric nurses.
If you would like to speak to one of the ward Managers - Diane Spiller is the ward manager for Star Station which is predominantly for surgical patients and adolescents, Beverly Jones manages Rainbow Station which mainly cares for medical patients, as well as high dependency and oncology patients and Pam Francis is responsible for the paediatric Assessment Unit and Children’s Out patients and they will be happy to answer any queries or questions you may have.
To help you recognise who is who on the unit here is a list of what the nurses wear: –
Lead Nurse: – Navy blue dress with maroon trim/ tunic/ trousers
Deputy Lead Nurse: – Navy Blue dress with blue trim/ tunic / trousers.
Sister: - Navy blue dress with white trim / tunic / trousers.
Charge Nurse: – Navy Blue tunic with white epaulets and navy trousers
Staff Nurse: - Blue and white striped dress / tunic and navy trousers.
Student Nurse: - Pale Blue
Nursing Auxiliaries / Health Care Assistants: - Green / white striped uniform.
Other Members of our Team
Play Therapists – Our Play team are specially trained to provide a wide range of therapeutic play for children. They will help prepare children for specific procedures, provide diversional activities to reduce a child’s anxiety levels and also provide games, activities and toys to make a child’s stay in hospital more enjoyable and less traumatic.
Play therapists - wear purple polo shirts and black trouserers.
School Teachers – Our school teachers will provide educational support while your child is in hospital.
Domestic Staff – Our domestic staff will bring hot drinks 3 x daily for parents and older children and change your juice or water jug daily. They aim to ensure your environment is clean and pleasant.
Housekeepeing and domestic staff - wear purple tunics and blue trousers
Other important staff who may be involved in your care are: ward clerks, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and pharmacists.
Consultant Ward Rounds / When Will I See a Doctor?
A consultant ward round takes place daily at 9.00 am for all new admissions. You will see a doctor regularly through out your stay and prior to discharge.
