I am a qualified Social Worker with experience in mental health, substance misuse and community health and social care initiatives.
I have a particular interest in promoting the health needs of vulnerable groups and young people ensuring their involvement in service planning and monitoring. I am also involved in community regeneration and housing projects in Cheltenham, encouraging health issues are part of their design.
I moved to Gloucestershire in 1973 to take up a post as Senior Tutor in the Gloucester school of nursing. We united with the Cheltenham school and after a brief period as the Senior Tutor in Cheltenham I was appointed to the post of Director of Nursing Education responsible for nursing education throughout the county.
My professional life has also included several periods working abroad in Asia and Africa, assessing and seeking ways to support health care provision in poorer parts of those continents. I finally retired at the age of 65. For the last seven years I have been a chaplaincy volunteer visiting patients in wards throughout GRH, especially cardiology every week.
In view of my experience I am delighted to have been appointed to the Clinical Excellence Committee of the Trust.
