General Surgery

Introduction

General Surgeons treat a very wide range of conditions through surgery. The term general surgery embraces a variety of different surgical specialties such as breast surgery, gut and bowel (known as upper gastrointestinal and colorectal) surgery, and vascular surgery. Most General surgeons in addition to minor and general surgery will have a special interest in one of these specific areas and separate web pages have been set up to describe each in more detail.

Services Provided

The General Surgery Department offers a comprehensive and high quality range of surgical procedures to the local community. A wide range of surgical procedures are undertaken as day and inpatient cases in addition to minor operations. Where possible these will be carried out at your local hospital.

The General Surgery clinic staff gives care and advice, before and after surgery, to people with various general surgical problems.

Information leaflets are available for many of the conditions seen in the department and we encourage patients to ask questions in order to understand their treatment fully.
