Introduction
Gastroenterology is the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system, including the stomach, bowels, liver, gall bladder and related organs. These include conditions such as abdominal pain, ulcers, diarrhoea and cancer. Gastroenterologists perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and they consult with surgeons when abdominal operations are required.
Services Provided
The Gastroenterology department provides a comprehensive investigation and management service of suspected and established gastrointestinal disease. Our patient services are provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The diseases dealt with through this service range across the whole of gastroenterology.
The 8 Gastroenterologists provide a highly specialised compassionate service to the local community. A high standard of care is given by all the staff within the department to meet the needs and expectations of our patients. Diagnostic capabilities include colonoscopy, endoscopy and ERCP. An Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic provides specialised ongoing care for patients with this chronic illness.
Providing informative resources to patients and their loved ones wishing to enhance their understanding of various digestive diseases and/or procedures is a priority. Therefore, information leaflets are available for many of the conditions seen in the department and we encourage patients to ask questions in order to understand their treatment fully.
The Department provides the following Outpatient Services:
• General Gastroenterology Service
• Liver Disease Service
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease Service
• Suspected Gastroenterology Cancer Service
Please Note: Not all Services are provided at every Location.
