Introduction
The surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and deformities of the mouth, face, facial skeleton, and adjacent structures.
The scope of the specialty is extensive and includes facial injuries, head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral mucosa such as mouth ulcers and infections. Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons frequently work alongside other specialists including orthodontists, oncologists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, and ENT surgeons
Services Provided
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department provides services to the local population to diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical and surgical disorders of the head, neck and face, including head and neck cancer. They treat patients referred to them from both medical and dental practitioners as well as those who may have experienced facial trauma including broken jaws, broken cheekbones and facial lacerations.
The 3 Consultants aim to provide high quality patient care with the help of their dedicated team.
Information leaflets are available for many of the conditions seen in the department and we encourage patients to ask questions in order to understand their treatment fully.
The Department provides the following Outpatient Services at Gloucestershire Royal, Cheltenham General & Cirencester Hospital.
