Introduction
Rheumatology covers all diseases that affect the joints, bone and cartilage. This includes rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and gout.
Rheumatologists are doctors who specialise in diseases of the joints, muscles, bones and tendons. They diagnose and treat arthritis, back pain, muscle strains, common athletic injuries, systemic lupus, sarcoidosis, collagen diseases and scleroderma. They may work closely with other specialists such as physical therapists and orthopaedic surgeons.
The Department provides the following Outpatient services:
• General Rheumatology Service
• Osteoporosis Service

Our Staff
There are 7 Rheumatology Consultants who each lead a team of specialist doctors and nurses. As a patient you may be seen by the clinician or by a doctor or nurse within their team. The clinician has overall responsibilty for your care.
In addition to the two main Hospitals the Rheumatology Consultants hold Outpatient Clinics at Cirencester, Dilke Memorial, Lydney, Moore Cottage Bourton, Moreton District Stroud General and Tewkesbury Hospital.
