Introduction
Orthopaedics is the medical speciality concerned with preservation, restoration and development of the musculoskeletal system, extremities, spine and associated structures, using medical, surgical and physical methods. Orthopaedic Surgeons also look after Trauma patients with an injury who arrive as an emergency through the Casualty department.
Services Provided
The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department offers a full range of services for both adults and children including treating disorders of the body's bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
The aim of the department is to provide an efficient, friendly and high quality service for all our patients. We strive to ensure that patients are well informed and reassured about their treatment.
In addition to the numerous Consultant led clinics, specialised nurse and physiotherapy led clinics are also held and the plaster room provides a specialised service to patients requiring plaster casts, braces and splints.
Information leaflets are available for many of the conditions seen in the department and we encourage patients to ask questions in order to understand their treatment fully.
