Orthopaedic Admission Suite
The department is situated in St Paul’s Wing of the hospital. Entrance is best made via Kensham Road, there is a pay and display car park outside the entrance to this wing. Pre Operative Assessment, Orthopaedic Admissions and orthotics all work within the department.
If you are coming for a pre assessment then you will be seen by a Health care assistant and a staff nurse who will record you BP, weight, BMI. ECG, take swabs for MRSA and undertake a full medical assessment to ensure that you are fit and able to proceed with the planned surgical procedure that you have been put on the waiting list for. You will also be given many information leaflets during this visit which we will give you a folder to put them into please revisited and read these when you get home to refresh your memory of all the information given on this visit. This assessment can take up to 2 hours.
If you are coming to the suite for your planned operation you will be admitted by a member of the nursing team. You will also be seen by an anaesthetist and a member of your orthopaedic consultant’s team. You will stay in the waiting room and advised when to change ready for a member of the theatre staff to collect you for your operation. Sister will tell you when she knows which ward you will be going to as soon as the bed managers inform her. Some day case patient will return to the suite after their surgery to recover prior to going home again Sister will instruct you if you are one of these patients. The waiting area is not large enough to accommodate relatives or friends, therefore may we request that after you have been dropped off they then leave unless there are issues which prevent this in this circumstance please speak to sister.
The orthotics department run an appointments system.

Charge Nurse: – Navy blue tunic and trousers.
Staff Nurse: – Blue and white stripped dress / tunic and navy trousers.
Male Staff Nurse: – White tunic with blue and white stripped epaulets.
Student Nurse: – Pale blue dress/tunic with navy trousers.
Nursing Auxiliaries/Health Care Assistants: – Green stripped dress/tunic and navy trousers.
Male Nursing auxiliaries/Health Care Assistants: – White tunic with green epaulets and navy trousers.
Nurse Practitioner: – Navy blue dress/tunic with blue piping/trousers
